Natural Scar Remedies

We all crave flawless, smooth and even skin - and we're fully aware that images of models and celebrities have undoubtedly been 'Photoshopped' to obtain just that look.

But whether it's acne scarring, stretchmarks from pregnancy or scars from surgery, most of us at some point will have an unsightly scar or two which we want to get rid of. There are many products out there marketed to reassure this concern, but little that actually work and most are filled with toxic ingredients.

Popular products widely bought in our high-street shops, such as Bio Oil, shout wild claims about rapid stretch mark improvement, but in reality are formulated with cheap fillers such as liquid paraffin, synthetic fragrances and artificial dyes. In fact, out of Bio-Oil’s 29 ingredients, just four are plant derived extracts which can easily be found in many other body products on the market.

Natural remedies can be surprisingly powerful and healing, and are an excellent way to treat our skin as nature intended, without exposure to harsh chemicals.

Natural home remedies, dating back hundreds of years are a great place to start, with simple one-ingredient treatments often proving very effective. Here are a few ideas:
  • Coconut oil applied to damaged skin regularly will help soften it and reverse free-radical damage due to the high amount of natural fatty acids that work to protect and heal skin.
  • Raw honey can be used to fade scars naturally and has in fact been used on wounds and burns for centuries due to its natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Vitamin E is often hailed as one of the most effective natural scar treatments, and for good reason. It’s said to stimulate the formation of collagen, which can improve skin texture, elasticity and strength.
  • Powerful natural oils with significant healing abilities, such as Rosehip and Tamanu can also be very effective and wonderful when formulated with other ingredients into a concentrated healing oil or product.

Try your hand at mixing some of these ingredients together to make your own formula, or you can start out with our specially concocted recipe that’s ideal for topical application during pregnancy and to help reduce stretch marks:

Healing Rosehip Oil:

20ml Jojoba Oil

20ml Rosehip Oil

5ml Tamanu Oil

4ml Sea Buckthorn Oil

1ml Vitamin E Oil

Simply blend these oils together and apply daily on affected areas. This recipe can equally be used for scars or damaged skin. Store this treatment oil in a glass bottle and keep in a cool, dry place.
