Why Challenge Testing is Important
If your product contains water, it is at risk of microbial contamination during use. To legally sell cosmetics in the UK, EU, and many other regions, you must demonstrate that your preservative system effectively controls bacteria, yeast, and mold. Challenge testing, also known as Preservative Efficacy Testing (PET), simulates contamination by introducing microorganisms and monitoring how well your product neutralises them over time. We follow ISO 11930 and USP <51> standards—accepted by regulators worldwide.
